Praise to God!

Main Point

The word doxology means: Praise to God. This is what Peter writes next. After reminding the readers that they are chosen, he praises God for who he is and what he has done. The focus of the hymn of praise is the eternal inheritance that is ahead for believers. The troubles believers face now pale in comparison to what is in their eternal future. This is our eternal inheritance. This reminds us that we are adopted sons and daughters and that inheritance is available to us.

This is how God brings our inheritance:

  • According to His Great Mercy: we need mercy because of our sin
  • He has Caused us to be reborn to a Living Hope
  • Through Jesus and the power of his resurrection

This is the inheritance that awaits us (it is obtainable because of Jesus Christ):

  • Imperishable- no corruption or death
  • Undefiled- unstained, unpolluted
  • Will not fade away- always shining
  • Reserved in Heaven
  • By the Power of God through faith- our entire spiritual walk is about believing
