Living with Our Leaders

Main Point

Last week we learned about being submissive to Civil Leaders (government). This week Peter continues talking about submission in the workplace. We need to have respect for those in authority over us. This is easy if they are a great boss, this is much harder if they are not a great leader. Ultimately, Peter says we need to endure difficulty in the workplace with patience. We have been called to this purpose: patient endurance.

The Call to Submit:

  • Respect, without bitterness and negativity. No matter if they are gentle or unreasonable (Greek: Curved or Crooked)

The Motivation to Submit:

  • When we submit to one another it shows grace to the other person
  • Keep our witness
  • Grow in favor with God

Scripture

  • 1 Peter 2:18-21a
  • David and Saul 1 Samuel 16, 18:6-11, 24:2-12, 26:6-12
  • Ephesians 6:5-9

Questions

  • How have you seen God’s grace in your life? How can you reflect that to those who treat you disrespectfully?
  • How does respect for others further the gospel?
  • What is hard about patience?

Application

  • Show grace and respect to others.
  • Memorize: Matthew 5:10

10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
