Main Point
How do we prepare ourselves to give a testimony to others? It is important to have our hearts in a good place so that we can give others an answer for the hope that we have in Jesus. Besides Paul’s testimony that we see in the book of Acts, my favorite testimony is that of the blind man in John 9.
How to Prepare for a Testimony
- Be passionate about doing good
- Be ready to suffer (an ongoing theme in 1 Peter)
- Sometimes we suffer for the right things, sometimes it is not fair
- Do not fear intimidation. (Easier said than done)
- Sometimes we suffer as discipline from the Lord
- Be devoted to Christ
- Set your heart completely on Christ, nothing else
- Be ready to defend the faith
- Be ready to share the hope that you have in the gospel
- Our testimony is simple: Who we were before Christ and who we are now.
- No one can take away our experience with Christ
- Have a clear conscience
- We need to keep up and maintain our testimony
- Our good behavior puts others to shame
Scripture
- 1 Peter 3:13-17
- Matthew 5:10-12
- Acts 26:12-29 (Paul’s Testimony)
Questions
- What are you passionate about? Is it for good?
- What does it mean to suffer for righteousness? Does that make it easier?
- Why does our good behavior put others to shame?
- How would you defend your faith to others?
Application
- Write out your testimony. See how short you can get it.
- Memorize John 9:25b: The testimony of the blind man
One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.
