Christ’s Submissive Sacrifice

Main Point

For the last two weeks, we have been learning to be submissive to the leaders in our lives even when they persecute us. This week we look at how Christ is the perfect example of a suffering servant. Christ is a perfect example of suffering. He is our perfect substitute for the punishment we deserve and he is also the perfect shepherd for us too.

Christ’s example during suffering:

  • Leaving us an example
  • to follow in his steps
  • sinless
  • truthful
  • didn’t seek revenge
  • didn’t threaten
  • trusted God

What Christ did for us:

  • Took our sins
  • So that we can live in righteousness
  • Spiritually and physically heals us
  • He became our Shepherd and gave us direction

Scripture

  • 1 Peter 2:21-25
  • 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
  • Hebrews 9:28

Questions

  • Are you suffering something unfair? How can you follow Jesus’ example?
  • Whom did Jesus turn to look to get justice?
  • How did God give Jesus justice?

Application

  • Praise God for the sacrifice of his son!
  • Memorize: Hebrews 9:28

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
