Spiritual Gifts Assessment
God has designed each one of us with unique gifts desires to activate and mobilize his followers to accomplish his mission and purpose.
Why do Spiritual Gifts matter? As believers who seek to follow Jesus and understand our calling, we need to know how God blesses each of us with Spiritual Gifts. First Corinthians 12:7 says, “A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good” (CSB). We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers each person in the church with a gift that is designed to bless those around them.
God uses our skills, experiences, our strengths, and even sometimes our weaknesses to become a blessing to the people around us.
Sometimes, it will take us some time to figure out how God has made us. Other times, God will call us toward a Gift that we wouldn’t expect or call us to grow in an area that we are weak in right now. But what is clear in God’s Word is that every believer is given a Spiritual Gift that they are called to share with others. First Peter 4:10-11 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” There are two things we can learn from these verses.
God blesses us with skills, powers, and abilities to serve other people.
In other words, Spiritual Gifts aren’t meant to be kept a secret as if they’re a treasure that needs to be kept under lock and key in a steel safe. Spiritual Gifts are supposed to be out in the open and used for the common good. Each of us gets to enjoy having our very own Spiritual Gifts, but the purpose of our Gifts is to bless others. In fact, the best way to enjoy a Spiritual Gift is to share it with others. Jesus says, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” (Acts 20:35) Sharing our Spiritual Gifts is the best way we can enjoy them!
God gives us Spiritual Gifts to bring glory and attention to Jesus.
When we use our Spiritual Gifts, we are pointing people back to Jesus. It is important for all of us to remember that our Spiritual Gifts are not our own. God gives us our Gifts. God empowers us to bless others and bring more people to Him. The goal of serving people and using our Gifts in the church is to help more people come to God. We are vessels of God’s power so that more people can be blessed by Him. As you look to follow Jesus and bless others, maybe you’re trying to figure out what your Spiritual Gifts are.
