Big Idea: You are an invaluable part of the body of Christ!
Icebreaker: Discuss a time when you felt like you were part of a valuable team. What was it like and how did it change you?
Key Scripture:
1 Corinthians 12:12-17, 22-27
Discussion Questions:
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:12. Paul illustrates a contrast in this verse…”parts” versus “whole body”. Why do you think Paul is making this contrast an issue? What is the major challenge that we face from this verse?
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-17. Paul uses rhetorical questions in these verses to emphasize the importance of each part of the body. Why do you think Paul uses these rhetorical questions? Do you ever ask similar questions about how you view yourself?
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:22-27. What stands out to you in these verses? How do these verses change the way you see others who are part of “the body”? Talk about somebody you know that works “behind the scenes” and “the body” couldn’t function without them? How does this idea encourage you to serve and live out who you are?
MOVING FORWARD
Father, You’ve made us each uniquely. We were and are being designed for Your purposes to function in Your body. Help us to see ourselves as a part of the whole of Your church. Help us to live in Your unique calling on our lives…not comparing ourselves to others…but recognizing how important we are for the purpose You’ve given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
